Calgary police have laid several firearms, drug and release-condition charges against a 20-year-old man who they allege breached court-ordered conditions two days after his release earlier this month.
In a news release Monday, October 26, the Calgary Police Service identified the accused as Sage Carson Elias Blaze Youngman, 20, of Calgary. The alleged breaches and arrest occurred October 7, not on the day the information was released.
Police said Youngman had been charged in August 2026 in connection with a liquor-store robbery. At that time, police reported seizing a loaded .22-calibre lever-action rifle. The robbery allegation is separate from the new charges and has not been proven in court.
Youngman was released on Monday, October 5, subject to a 24-hour curfew and a weapons prohibition, according to CPS. The service's Offender Management Team began monitoring him.
On Wednesday, October 7, members of that team observed Youngman downtown and determined he was allegedly violating his release conditions. Officers from the Community Engagement Response Team then arrested him.
Firearm, bear spray and suspected drugs seized
During the arrest, officers say they seized a firearm, bear spray, approximately nine grams of methamphetamine and approximately eight grams of fentanyl.
The charges announced by police include two counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking, three counts of breaching a release order and two counts of breaching probation.
Youngman is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 6. None of the new charges has been proven in court.
Police emphasize repeat-offender monitoring
Staff Sgt. Kerry Smith of the CPS Offender Management Unit said monitoring people considered high-risk requires significant resources and coordination within the police service and with partner agencies. Police say that work is intended to identify breaches and intervene before further offences occur.
