YYC24 / ACCOUNTABILITY

Editorial standards.

Published October 19, 2026

These standards guide our reporting and give readers a basis for holding YYC24 accountable. Jay Morgan, Founder & Editor, is responsible for editorial decisions.

Accuracy before speed

We check the central facts of a story against reliable evidence before publishing. That includes names, dates, numbers, locations and the sequence of events. In developing coverage, we identify what is confirmed, what remains uncertain and where information came from. A deadline does not justify inventing detail.

Sources and attribution

We seek original documents, direct accounts and responses from the people or organizations involved. We credit other outlets when their reporting contributes to a story. A claim in a release or social post is attributed to its source, rather than automatically presented as an established fact.

Anonymous sourcing requires a clear public-interest reason and an assessment of the source’s knowledge and reliability. We seek corroboration and explain the reason for anonymity where possible. Confidentiality terms must be discussed and agreed before sensitive information is shared. Our public contact form is not a secure or anonymous submission channel.

Fairness and care

People and organizations facing substantial criticism should have a reasonable opportunity to respond. We distinguish allegations, charges and findings, respect the presumption of innocence, and take particular care with victims, children and people in vulnerable circumstances. Analysis is labelled so readers can distinguish interpretation from reported facts.

Corrections and updates

Significant factual errors require a visible, dated correction explaining what changed. New information and clarification are distinguished from corrections. Our corrections and clarifications policy explains the labels and how to raise a concern.

Artificial intelligence and synthetic media

YYC24 may use AI-assisted tools in research, drafting, editing, graphics and production, including synthetic narration. Human editorial responsibility remains with YYC24. AI output is not evidence: facts, quotations and sources still require verification.

We disclose material uses of generative AI in published work, including synthetic narration or generated illustrative imagery, through a production note, caption or video disclosure. Synthetic material must not be presented as authentic footage, a real interview or an eyewitness recording. We do not fabricate quotations or sources.

Images, video and credits

Images and footage should be accurately described and credited where the source is known. File material and illustrations should be identified where readers could mistake them for imagery of the event. Cropping, editing and graphics must preserve the meaning of the evidence.

Independence and commercial support

Advertising and sponsorship must be clearly identified and kept distinct from independent news coverage. Commercial support does not purchase favourable reporting or control editorial conclusions. Relevant personal, financial or professional conflicts should be disclosed to readers.
