Calgary police have charged two men after a woman was found during a tactical search of a home in Forest Lawn earlier this month. Investigators are asking for the public's help finding a third man wanted in connection with the alleged kidnapping.
In a release on Thursday, October 29, the Calgary Police Service said it learned on October 12 that a woman was allegedly being held against her will at a residence in southeast Calgary. Early on October 13, Tactical Unit officers executed a search warrant in the 2000 block of 37 Street S.E., locating the woman and arresting two men.
Police believe the alleged kidnapping was targeted and drug-related. The release did not provide the woman's identity or details about her injuries or condition.
Two men charged
Joseph Richard Frederick Sarazen, 45, of Calgary, faces charges of overcoming resistance to the commission of an offence, forcible confinement, assault, theft under $5,000 and three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. His next scheduled court appearance is Monday, November 2.
Jordan Barry Taylor, 36, of Calgary, faces the same confinement, assault, theft and trafficking charges, along with possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a court order and unsafe storage of a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, November 5.
These charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
Police seek third man
Police say Dmetri Tyrone Cappo, 33, of Calgary, is wanted on warrants that include forcible confinement, theft under $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking and breach of a court order.
CPS describes Cappo as approximately six feet tall and 280 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Police have published his photograph in the original release. As of the October 29 announcement, officers were still seeking him; the status of any outstanding warrant should be rechecked before recirculating the appeal.
Drug, firearm and motorcycle seized
Police say the search turned up a sawed-off rifle, a stolen motorcycle in the driveway, multiple cellphones and suspected drugs with an estimated combined street value of $72,150.
The seized drugs included approximately 607 grams of fentanyl, valued by police at $60,700; 360 grams of methamphetamine, valued at $7,200; and 850 millilitres of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), valued at $4,250. These are police estimates, not independently assessed sale values.
