The provincial government released its year-end financial results Friday, reporting $79.8 billion in revenue and $77.5 billion in expenses. The results represent a $7.4-billion improvement over the original budget, which had projected a $5.2-billion deficit. According to the province, the improvement was driven by higher investment income, corporate tax revenue and non-renewable resource revenue, alongside lower-than-budgeted spending. Revenue exceeded initial projections by $5.6 billion, including an additional $2.1 billion in investment income, $932 million in corporate taxes and $867 million in resource revenue. Provincial spending came in $1.8 billion below budget. Alberta's Heritage Savings Trust Fund also surpassed $32 billion, supported by investment earnings and contributions from previous surpluses. The province reported net debt of $33.6 billion as of March 31, 2026, down $747 million from the previous year. The government is forecasting a sixth consecutive surplus for the current 2026–27 fiscal year, although that result has not yet been finalized.
