Calgary dealt with roughly 30,000 complaints related to illegal dumping on municipal property in 2025.
Now, Alberta is proposing much tougher penalties for illegal dumping, including fines of up to $100,000 for individuals and $1 million for corporations, along with possible jail time in more serious cases.
The proposed changes have not yet become law. Legislation is expected to be introduced this fall.
