A Calgary man who was wanted on 10 outstanding warrants is facing 32 charges after police arrested him at a new-home construction site in Varsity earlier this month.

Calgary police say officers were monitoring 29-year-old Logan Donald Smith on Sept. 16 when they saw him enter a construction site in the 4800 block of Voyageur Drive N.W.

Police allege Smith broke into the site intending to steal electrical wire. Investigators also allege he was driving despite being prohibited from doing so by a court order.

Smith was arrested without incident.

During the arrest, police say officers seized a sawed-off shotgun with its serial number removed, along with ammunition.

Police say Smith had been released from custody in July and was subsequently found to be violating conditions of his release.

He now faces 32 charges, including break and enter, possession of break-in tools, two counts of motor vehicle theft, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and two counts of driving while prohibited.

Several firearms charges were also laid, including unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and possession of a prohibited firearm with accessible ammunition.

Smith is also charged with two counts of breaching a firearms prohibition order and 13 counts of breaching a release order.

Calgary police described Smith as a prolific offender. The service's Prolific Offender Engagement Team monitors individuals identified as having a significant impact on community safety while also working with partner agencies on rehabilitation and reintegration.

Smith remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, Oct. 1.

The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
