Calgary police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old man following an investigation into a reported sexual assault at the Southland CTrain station in August.

The Calgary Police Service announced the charge on Friday, October 16. The investigation began on August 25, when officers were called to the station parking lot at 10158 Sacramento Drive S.W. at approximately 1 a.m.

Police say witnesses had reported a vulnerable woman in distress who appeared to have been sexually assaulted. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Investigators believe the woman did not know the man before the reported attack.

Officers collected evidence at the scene and conducted inquiries in the surrounding area. In late August, police released surveillance images of a vehicle they believed was connected to the investigation and asked the public for information.

Police say the investigation subsequently led to an arrest. Sedat Kaya, 25, has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

Kaya is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 27, 2026. The charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.

Investigators are asking anyone with further information to call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or calgarycrimestoppers.org.
