Construction is underway on a new 131-room hotel along the Bow River in Calgary’s East Village.

Truman and Marriott International are developing the five-storey Moxy Calgary East Village on a parcel at 6 Avenue and Confluence Way S.E., along the Jack and Jean Leslie RiverWalk.

Work on the site began in mid-September, according to Calgary Municipal Land Corporation. The hotel is expected to be completed in 2028.

Plans call for 131 rooms, communal gathering and fitness spaces, a bar and an outdoor thermal spa. Some of the hotel's amenities are expected to be available to both guests and members of the surrounding community.

Truman purchased the property in 2025. CMLC describes it as the last of East Village's prime riverfront development sites, near the George C. King Bridge and St. Patrick's Island.

The hotel will operate under Marriott's Moxy brand and become the third hotel in East Village.

It is also the third development to break ground in the neighbourhood this year as several previously vacant or underused parcels move into construction.

Work is already underway on Library Square, a two-building rental development east of the Central Library, and Vibe, a 218-unit mixed-use rental development near the RiverWalk.

More development is also planned.

CMLC announced Tuesday that Sumus Bankside has purchased two additional parcels known as Blocks Q3 and Q4. The developer plans to build two mixed-use residential buildings on the sites, completing a block that already includes the Verve condominium tower and the Vibe development now under construction.

Construction on the Q3 and Q4 project is expected to begin in 2027, with further details to be released later.

The East Village Moxy is one of several Calgary hotel projects being advanced by Truman and Marriott.

An approximately 320-room Autograph Collection hotel is already under construction on Stampede Park, while proposed W and JW Marriott developments near Macleod Trail and 15 Avenue S.E. are moving through the approval process.

Moxy Calgary East Village is expected to open in 2028.
