A boil water advisory is affecting approximately 100 homes in southwest Calgary after an unexpected drop in water pressure during water main repairs in Eagle Ridge and the Heritage Park area.
Alberta Health Services ordered the precautionary advisory on Friday, October 16, after City of Calgary crews experienced an unanticipated depressurization in a water main serving the area. The City says it cannot guarantee the water quality until the issue is resolved.
Residents covered by the advisory must bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute before drinking it or using it for cooking, making coffee or tea, brushing teeth, washing raw produce, preparing infant formula or making ice.
Water from in-home filters must also be boiled. Residents may use bottled water instead. The City says water wagons are being provided, with locations posted at calgary.ca/wateroutages.
Water used to hand-wash dishes or clean food-contact surfaces should be boiled first. Water for bathing and laundry does not need to be boiled.
Food service businesses, care providers and personal service facilities in the affected area are being directed to contact Environmental Public Health at 1-833-476-4743 for advice.
The repair work has also closed all southbound lanes of 14 Street S.W. between 75 Avenue S.W. and Heritage Drive S.W. The City says crews will work extended hours over the weekend and restore a southbound lane as soon as possible.
The water issue is unrelated to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.
The advisory remains in effect until further notice, according to the latest City of Calgary notice available Saturday. Affected residents should check calgary.ca/wateroutages for changes or call 311. Health-related questions can be directed to Health Link at 811.
